Detling Kit Car Show 12/13th Apr

Only a slight interest in this one this year, those that might go say they want to wait until the weekend of the show before deciding (there is no point in planning to go and then the weather being unsuitable) Our next Diss meeting is on the 12th Sunday so we can decide then if we want to go on the 13th Monday.

Norfolk Police Gala Day 6th September

This is probably our best local show of our shows season. This has now been handed over to the Showground ltd. This change now means we have to pay (£5) per car, which isn’t really a problem. The problem is the organizer wanted the money two weeks ago.

I now have ten cars wanting to attend and payment for nine of them.

If you would like to join us, please let me know ASAP. I will need your cheque or cash for £5 before the 15th of March. Any later than that, you can still go but will have to arrange this with the organizer direct.

The other was a fundraising event,  The Fakenham “Car-Nival” an all day extravaganza at Fakenham Racecourse on Sunday 23rd August when they will be hosting a large classic car and vintage truck show, in addition there will be stationary steam engines, display stands by major car suppliers, BBQ and bar, music, stalls, prize draw, tombola etc.

They expect this to be the major event of the summer in our area and  would be delighted to see as many members of the public as possible to help them raise money for this life saving charity appeal. The entrance charge is only £1 per adult (children under 16 are free) plus £1 per car for public car parking on site. November at Diss

Not a lot to say really. This was our last meet this year and the weather stayed bright for us but it was cold. Not a bad turnout but a shame there couldn’t have been a few more kit cars present, I even had to resort to a tin top as my Luego has a problem with the rear brakes  at the moment. Bob also encountered a problem on his way to Diss in his 2B which prevented him from attending. My camera wouldn’t work so I had to borrow one to take today’s pictures. Pictures to follow.

Christmas meal.

The meal for those that have booked will be on the 21st December from 1pm. Can I ask that we are all there before 12.30? Thanks.

Those that didn’t pay today will receive an e mail explaining what they need to do.

I would like to thank all of those that have attended the club meetings and events this year. Without you there wouldn’t be a club. Hopefully I’ll receive the same sort of attendance next year.

October at Diss

Wow what a great day.

Firstly our meeting attended by 21 member’s in 18 kit cars followed by a short drive to the Norfolk & Suffolk Westfield owners meeting at Thornham Magna.

We had another new member attend (sorry I’ve forgotten your name) who owns a Tiger E1 which is off the road at the moment while it’s being improved.

And Steve Marrigan showed his Tiger Avon for the first time.

We also had two guests in the way of Michelle and Sam both professional photographers. They took several pictures of Bob’s 2B, Paul Taylor’s 2B, Paul Surgeon’s Westfield and my Luego. These will be added to there portfolio to be used to get them into the kit car world. In return we will receive copies of the pictures on a disk. I look forward to seeing the results.

However the day did have a few downers as well. I arrived late due to the road I travel to Diss on, being blocked. The Hotel was holding a wedding show and subsequently the car park and hotel for that matter was chocker block full. This meant a lot of us couldn’t find a parking space and some had to leave their cars in the public car park next door. Also due to the wedding show we were not provided with a room to hold our meeting, although this was short this month it had to be held in the main bar area.

Also while travelling to the Westfield meet Paul Taylor and Bob took a more scenic route and encountered a problem. While travelling down a small road with a raise centre the plough as it’s been described before on Paul’s car did as its title and ploughed up silt and stones from the road into his engine bay. This caused the cam belt to jump a tooth or two and break the cam belt tensioner in the process.

They spent the next 90 minutes by the road side getting the car to run again and luckily enough Paul managed to drive the car home.

Camping at East Runton 16/17th May

11 of us from this club in six kit cars are joining several from the SG7 Kit Car club and going camping next weekend 16/17Th at East Runton.

The plan is as follows:

Friday evening a barbeque (bring something to cook).

Saturday morning a visit to Weybourne military Museum

The Red Hart pub for lunch

A drive up to Blakeney, and then drive along coast road back to Cromer (we can all do our own thing of course, if people want to stop in Blakeney or somewhere else along the way, that is up to the individual) then to meet up on the cliff top car park in Cromer.    Perhaps get some chips....

Then eventually back to the camp site for a few drinks

Sunday has nothing arranged?  Just a lazy day packing up and trundling off home.

If you would like to join us for the weekend you are more than welcome.

You will however have to contact the Manor farm campsite and book yourself a pitch (hopefully some are still available).http://www.manorfarmcaravansite.co.uk/

If you would like to join us for Saturday you are more than welcome just let me know and I can give you more details.

Shipdham flying club

John Waterman one of our members from RHOCAR days is now the membership secretary of the Shipdham flying club and a half owner of a Cessna plane.

John has made a suggestion; it is to invite the East Anglian Kit Car club, Rhocar, and any other kit car club (including family members). To hold a meet at Shipdham flying club.  In turn he will provide a chance for anyone to give gliding and or powered flying a go.
They have a small cafe, and can provide a BBQ for little refreshments.  There is ample room to park plenty of cars.

Most thought it to be a good idea.

I will get back to John and let him know we are interested.

Treasure hunt

We have atreasure hunt route planned I will shortly be sending out an email with some date to choose from as to when we should do the hunt.

April at Diss

Thank you to all that made the meeting today.

I had the thought that I wouldn’t be seeing many cars today due to the weather forecast and few that had already informed me that they wouldn’t be present, so I was suitably impressed when we had nine kits present.

And again the weather forecast wasn’t to close to the truth we had a lovely sunny day all the time we were at Diss.

I did decide to take a detour home and did hit some heavy rain before I got home, all adds to the funJ.

It was nice to meet another new face that of Lee Waddingham. Lee has a sierra all stripped down in his garage waiting for his build. At present he is planning to build an MK fitted with a Zetec engine.

Detling Kit Car show

Six of us in five kits drove to Detling for a day of fun. There were a few little problems along the way but all ended well.

Stoneleigh kit Car Show

Stoneleigh Is the next Kit car show on the 4/5th May

A few of us will be travelling to the show on the Sunday morning and camping over. All are welcome to joins us either just for the convoy, the day or the whole weekend.

We will be leaving Thetford at 08.00, Newmarket 09.45.

I handed out the events list for 2008 it’s a bit late but better late than never.

I explained that a lot of event organizer require to know how many will be attend their event. The handouts are written so they explain how much an event will cost or not and when I need to know by if you do require to attend.

August meeting.

Our august meeting clashes with the new kit car show at Peterborough. It was suggested that I hold the meeting at the Peterborough show.  I have kept the hotel booking for now. If enough members still want to meet at Diss on August 10th I will keep the booking. Please let me know, otherwise the booking will be cancelled.

Banner/ Flag

I had intended to purchase a plain banner flag and pole, but when I went to purchase it I found that they didn’t sell the banner flags in yellow our required colour, but they do sell flags in yellow. It was a agreed that I should purchase a yellow flag.

Web address stickers

I purchased two roll bars stickers (See picture) these were thought by some to be too small and others to be ok. The plan is to buy forty of them 20 in Black and 20 in Silver.

March at Diss 2008

Thanks to those that came to the meeting at Diss. This was our first meeting of 2008.

Not the best of weather with a keen wind and the odd shower, later developing into hale storms, but most stayed dry until they returned home. It was nice to see 12 kit cars an MGB and an Austin 7,and some new faces.

I had intended to handout sheets to those present, showing them what was planed for the year ahead unfortunately my printer packed up and the replacement didn't arrive in time

I'll hand these out next month.

Not a lot happening until next month.

Detling Kit Car show is on the 12th April. Five members expressed an interest to travel to the show in convoy in kit cars.

The meeting points are at Thetford Texaco services (IP24 1QN) at 08.00

Newmarket BP services (CB8 0XG) at 08.30-08.45. Then we will follow the A11/M25/M20 hopefully arriving at Detling at 10.00.

Our next Diss meeting is on the 13th April at the Park Hotel Diss.

August meeting.

Our august meeting clashes with the new kit car show at Peterborough, I therefore asked the park Hotel if we could have our meeting the following week on the 17th,unfortunately they can’t fit us in that Sunday. Those members present decided that we wouldn’t have an August meeting because most of us will be at Peterborough.

However I have kept the booking for now. If enough members still want to meet at Diss on August 10th I will keep the booking. Please let me know, otherwise the booking will be cancelled.

Banner

I will purchase a plain banner and pole in the near future and Sue has kindly volunteered to sew on some letters for our club banner. Thanks Sue.

After the meeting at Diss several of us took a trip to the Norfolk/Suffolk Westfield owners meeting at Tivetshall St Mary where there were 11 kit cars present six of them being Westfield’s.

Great day I look forward to the next.

November at Diss

Thanks to those that came to the meeting at Diss.

Shame about the weather, most left home in the rain so some choose to attend in the tin tops.

The weather did improve for a bit but then choose to rain again then rained all day.

Oh well we had a good chat in the bar and then in the function room.

October at Diss

Thanks to those that came to the meeting at Diss.

I must say I was gob smacked with the amount of cars that attended today.

There were some very impressive cars indeed. Sorry to those that I only got part of you name and for what

was total disorganization. I had expected about 15 cars and had planned as such. The planned room wasn’t

large enough to house us all so the bar had to do.

The plan for the new club is:

The website name has been changed accordingly to The East Anglian Kit Car Club.

I will soon sort a domain name to suit. I also intend to get some stickers made to display the club name on

our cars on the inside of the windscreen or Roll bar or both.

The plan is to also get a flag/banner of some description when finances allow.

The meeting was followed by a trip to the Norfolk/Suffolk Westfield owners meeting which is held in most

suitable surroundings. Thanks to them for the invite.

We have voted to go for the plated menu, which I will send out via e mail to all those that are attending.

Once you have all selected your choices I will compile a list for the Park hotel.

Full Payment (£16.95 per person) for the meal needs to be received by the hotel no later than the 23 November.

As we are meeting there again on the 11th November that may be a good time to pay.

Not the best of meetings despite the weather being good.

Firstly my car is off the road temporarily which obviously puts a damper on

to participate,So we decided that it wasn’t worth just two members doing it,

the idea was put on hold for another day.

What are Easter Sundays for if it’s not meeting up at the hotel having a chat a drink and a meal with like minded people?

Well that what a few of us did.

It was Lovely weather for it as well.

Unfortunately the main topic of conversation was my sick car.

Also it’s not a good idea owning a V8 powered 7, the speeding tickets arrive too soon.

March at Diss 2007

It’s that time again and what a day for it. What weather, the sun shone all day and the temperature was highest this year so far, it could have been a June meeting.

It was nice to see all of those faces again after the winter break.

I noticed a few winter mod’s namely Bob has attached skirts to his dash again, made a very good job of it as well  also he re-sprayed his alloys, Andy has changed the exhaust on his westy (Get the polishing paste out Andy) and Gerry’s wind reduction mod.

It was also the first showing of my Luego, thanks for all the comments.

ANCC membership is due for renewal. All agreed we should pay the £5 membership to gain the events list for the year.

I discussed what was planned for the year ahead this can be found at http://www.freewebs.com/rhocareast/eventdates2007.htm.

I need to add another Totalkitcarlive event and Marham track day.(now done)

Incidentally one happened to be today only seven miles away.

I was given contact details for the track days at RAF Marham also the meeting dates and venues for the Westfield owners club.

There was also another kit car meeting at Barton mills just thirty miles away.

I also mentioned a Duxford classic cars show happening on 19th August.

However the SG7 group are also planning one or two of these Duxford shows and maybe it would be a good idea to attend on the same date as them?

With that the meeting was closed and the chats begin.

Car quiz

As posted recently there is a quiz being held in Cambridgeshire.

After the fine event organized by Sporting Car Club of Norfolk last year it is now the turn of Cambridge Car Club

to run the event, which of course we are honored so to do.

The quiz will be held:             8.00 pm Wednesday 8 November 2006

This year the event will be at the Histon Junior school in the centre of Histon which is just North of Cambridge, (Map attached).

As last year, the entry fee will be £10.00 per team.  Each team should be no more than 4 people.  Clubs may enter more than one team.

We promise you an interesting and (reasonably) challenging evening and hope that we will see you there.

The premises are not licensed so please bring your own alcoholic beverages.

A big thank you to all of you that turned up today, I hope you all had as good a day as I did.

It was nice to see Gerry Cole his first appearance this year.

It was even better to meet a few new faces and a couple of new cars to the club.

Firstly James in his Westfield SE equipped with a Zetec running on twin forties.

Then Andy pointer and his family who own a Luego Velocity that will be going for SVA on the 9th

August all the best for that Andy.

Later we meet Dee and Trevor in their Locost with Vauxhall red top power.

Hopefully we will see them all again.

There was a lot of interest in Mike's Luego Viento which made it's first showing at Diss.

June at Diss

Another excellent day with an exceptional turn out with thirteen kit cars present.

The weather was dare I say it a bit hotter than we would have liked (one good thing about travelling to the meeting in the tin top was the air conditioning to and fro).

It was nice to see John Chapman’s 2B04 that has recently passed SVA lovely car John well done.

It was also good to see the Zetec powered Sylva Star driven by a friend of Alan’s.

The most disappointing part of the day was the fact that Mike’s car passed its SVA last Tuesday and due to the DVLA being so badly organised he has still been unable to get it registered.

John's 2B04

John Cobbe's Sub K

Sylva Star

SVA.

Congratulations to Mike and John for getting their cars through SVA.

Newark.

I will be at Newark Saturday and Sunday next week.

Others have said they will be there as well either on Sat or Sunday.

No one wanted me to arrange a convoy.

Helmingham hall

This event is on the 6th August.

Those wishing to go need to return their application forms to me no later than next months meeting, so I can put them all in the post together.

Kimbolton castle classic car show

This event is on the 16th July

Andy kindly picked up seven tickets for this event when he visited the SG7 group last week.

These are all now spoken for.

Those that said they wanted to go.

Please let me know if you change your mind so the ticket can be used by another member.

I think a convoy to this event would be nice, there will be a Cobra joining us and Mikes Viento going.
